Crypto Is a Soccer Game Without a Referee

The phrase “wild west” is often used to describe the crypto space, but I’d like to offer a different perspective.

The phrase “wild west” is often used to describe the crypto space, but I’d like to offer a different perspective. Instead, let’s think of the crypto space as a soccer game without a referee.

In a top-level soccer game, both teams wear matching uniforms and understand the rules. They know that breaking the rules will result in punishment from the referee. This knowledge affects how they play the game, as they’re less likely to commit fouls or use prohibited tactics.

Now, imagine a group of random people playing pick-up soccer in the park. No one wears matching uniforms, and the players’ skill levels are unknown. Without a referee, there’s no one to stop fouls, and the out-of-bounds line is unclear. The players must be cautious of potential dangerous tackles, and they must also protect their belongings.

Crypto is like the latter scenario. The rules are unclear, and it’s hard to distinguish what is acceptable and what isn’t. The goalposts can be moved or removed, and players must be careful not to fall victim to scams or have their crypto stolen.

With proper management, the crypto space can become more organized and safe, like a well-refereed cup final. Clear rules and consequences for breaking them would create an environment where players can focus on achieving their objectives without fear of being taken advantage of.

Currently, the crypto space lacks regulation and clarity. Players must be cautious and vigilant to avoid scams, and the lines between what is inbounds and out of bounds are blurred.

Some people may enjoy the lack of structure in the crypto space, as it allows them to take advantage of others. However, most players want a fair match and a referee to ensure that the game is played fairly. While they may sometimes argue with the referee, honest players know that a referee is necessary for the game to be played at its best.
